Ard Bia @Nimmos is a fairly great little spot. Established and run by Aoibheann MacNamara, there's now also a cook book of the same name, it's perched on a slip way in the Spanish Arch in Galway city in an old stone building......
If it looks cool from the outside, it's even cooler on the inside, with an eclectic mix of cutlery, crockery and furniture, and with an even more eclectic menu. But the menu isn't just eclectic, it's filled with imaginative dishes made from top quality ingredients. Did I mention you definitely need to book a table?
How cute are the cloth napkins?
The night I ate in there, it was loaded with tourists (it's a hit on Tripadvisor) and filled with folks just in from adventures and donning rain coats and oil skins (well not quite the skins). But suffice to say it's very chilled.
We got this while we were waiting for the menus to arrive.....
To the food. For starter I got this feta board with fancy leaves and flat bread.....
It was hopping off the plate with spicy herbs and my carniverous date got himself some parfait...... but not cherry peach parfait.....
And then came the mains. Mine was this...... goat's cheese and vegetables and stuff.....
And the date/meat-lover got the steak. And apparently it was heaven.
Our bellies were real full at this stage but we said it would be rude not to have dessert. So an Irish-made ice-cream was ordered.
Everything here is pretty even my ice-cream bowl :)
This place is a real joy. It has a solid ethos and philosophy that shines through. The quality of the food is exquisite, now it mightn't be everyone's cup of tea (they sell loads of funky teas/drinks/craft beers etc) but if you're in anyway tempted it's really worth the while.
