An Original Irish Tea Shop

Kenmare.

What a wonderful, wonderful place. Especially when the sky is blue, it's summer time and there's no where else to be. The drive out from Killarney to Kenmare is what I take heaven to look like, through all the twists and turns and bends through rocks and hedges, passed Moll's Gap and straight into the gorgeous little town of sweet Kenmare. Always insist on being the passenger, it's a drive requiring much concentration on the part of the driver. You won't get to see all the beauty if you're behind the wheel.

Aside from all the gorgeousness of Kenmare, I just want to tell you about one particular gem of a place on Henry Street, that's the street on the right as you drive into the town.

It's an original Irish tea shop called Cupan Tae and I do believe that to this very day it's where I tasted the finest scone my tastebuds ever had the honour of encountering.

Ok so the owner had a dream. And the dream was to set up the most authentic of authentic tea shops with the freshest of cakes, the hottest of teas and whippiest of creams.....and sweetest of jams. Also in that dream was to gather (as you can see above) as much china as she could find. The shop is chock-a-block with the most delicate and pretty of porcelain you have ever seen. It was donated by friends and family from around the land. Nothing matches and yet it's all so perfect.

The napkins are all cutesy and the butter is REAL butter too. There are table cloths on the tables and lace curtains on the windows.

And if like me you fall in love with the china, you can buy it from the shop too. There are any amounts of shelves and spaces and dressers filled with the most unusual of plates and cups and saucers.

The place is so good it also has one in Galway.
